Raku Ceramics: The Japanese technique that “enhances the imperfections”.

In the 16th century, a type of rapid firing of clay was discovered in Japan, called Raku.
This Japanese term has the meaning of “relaxed, pleasant, joie de vivre”
The origin of Raku ceramics, with an improvised appearance, full of defects, almost unfinished, is closely connected to Zen thinking which is inspired by simplicity in forms.

All those that may seem like “imperfections” in Raku objects, are instead exalted and considered “beautiful” in Zen culture.
